Derek received his doctorate in Strategic Management from Purdue University in 2006. He also has an MBA from the University of Alberta and a BS in Biochemistry from McMaster University in Canada. He has taught a wide variety of courses at both the graduate and undergraduate levels, including Strategic Management, Business Planning, Corporate Finance, Entrepreneurial Finance, Technology Commercialization and Small Business Management.
His research focuses on innovation, entrepreneurship, and the boundaries of the firm. Derek has presented his research at national and international conferences in the United States and abroad. His articles have appeared in a variety of journals including the Journal of Business Research, Journal of Leadership and Organizational Studies and the Journal of Purchasing and Supply Management.
Derek hails originally from Canada and he and his wife Holly spend the bulk of their non-working hours wrangling their two sons, Oliver and Clifford.
